Background
On September 20, 2015 by action of the Charge Conference a Cliftondale Foundation Task Force was established to proceed with the formation of a Foundation pursuant to ¶2535 of the 2012 Book of Discipline.
 
On April 20, 2016, The Cliftondale Foundation, Inc. and was incorporated by the State of Georgia pursuant to the Georgia Nonprofit Corporation Code.
 
And on June 8, 2016 The Foundation was classified by the IRS as a Private Foundation and granted federal income tax exempt 501(c)(3) status.
 
Donors contributions are tax deductible. The Foundation can receive tax deductible bequest, devises, transfers or gifts.
 
The Foundation Task Team assumed the duties of the initial board and trustees of the Foundation.

Purpose
Develop and establish an Endowment and Legacy Program to support important ministries, programs and capital development projects for Cliftondale Church in perpetuity.
 
Receive, invest and administer in trust for Cliftondale UMC legacy gifts, undesignated general gifts, bequests, trusts, real and personal property gifts; undesignated/designated capital development gifts; and trust funds upon notice to the trustees as provided in ¶2533.5.
 
Invest and administer in trust for Cliftondale UMC all existing capital funds accounts, memorial gifts, and designated gifts for capital building projects.
 
Provide funding support for capital improvement projects over $25,000. Distribute designated funds for such purposes under the funding cap above.
 
Additional Responsibilities and Services:
Host seminars/events and disseminate information for adults of all ages regarding Wills, and estate planning.
 
Provide opportunities and encourage church member and constituents to make provisions for giving through the church, institutions, agencies, and causes by means of wills, annuities, trusts, life insurance, memorials, and various types of property.
 
Provide financial support through grants to youth development and community services programs of the Cliftondale United Methodist Church.
 
Provide supplemental funding of programs and Ministries of Cliftondale Church:
• Major Capital Building Campaign
• Facilities Improvement Projects
• Children and Family Ministries – Scholarships
• Youth Mission Projects
• At The Clift Young People Academy
• Worship, Nurture and Outreach Ministries

How will the Foundation Accomplish Its Goals and Purpose?
Our Foundation (The Cliftondale Foundation) will partner with the Georgia United Methodist Foundation who will provide a variety of planned giving options, programs and services for members including: charitable gift annuities, unitrusts, donor advised funds, retained life estate, living trusts, charitable lead trusts, and charitable remainder annuity trusts.
 
How will Church Funds Be Invested?
Cliftondale Foundation through Reputable federally regulated financial investment entities will be selected to fulfill the goals and investment objectives of each our funds and donor designations. The Georgia United Methodist Foundation (www.gumf.org) and Mutual of America Institutional Funds,Inc. (www.institutionalfunds.com) are currently the institutional custodians of Funds used to fulfill the goal of the Foundation. These are also socially responsible entities.

How does the Cliftondale Church Benefit?
Traditional organizations of the Church (Trustees Board, Finance) can concentrate on the current financial operational needs. The Foundation will provide expertise specific to the fundraising and investment needs of the Church. Funds can be administered in different way for different results. Endowment funds will provide a steady, predictable source of income because they are invested in perpetuity. Our Church can begin to receive major planned gifts that may have been gone to other causes.

Who Controls the Foundation?
A seven-member Board of Directors which includes the Pastor of Cliftondale Church, members of the Administrative Board and At Large members with specific expertise in planned giving, estate planning and investment. The current Board of Directors are:

Yes, our Legacy and capital development programs will increase giving by providing members an opportunity to support the church through additional giving options and while supporting their favorite ministry.
